The entire Ojokoro community aptly became a carnival ground recently when supporters, admirers, party stalwarts and enthusiasts of Hon. Dipo Okeyomi popularly known as ‘Carry Go’ stormed the All Peoples Congress (APC) party secretariat in Ojokoro where he declared before delegates his intention to formally contest for the chairmanship position of the Ojokoro Local Community Development Area (LCDA).
At the well-attended declaration, well wishers of “Carry Go” took to the busy Ijaye road to trek several kilometers to show their solidarity for the chairmanship aspirant as they dance to mop up awareness and support for the much-loved politician.
Soon after he made a triumphant entry into the party headquarters, Hon. Okeyomi went into a closed door session with the party Local government executives where he rolled out his plan for the party’s development in Ojokoro.
He was later led to meet with the over 200 party delegates who will determine the party’s candidate when the Lagos state INEC, LASIEC releases guidelines for the local government elections.
Hon. Okeyomi took time to intimate his teeming fans and supporters with his background when he told of his educational and political career. He has been a security consultant to the governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, aspiring fellow from the institute of Local government Secretariat Management study and a former Senior Special Adviser to erstwhile chairman of Ojokoro LCDA.
He made bold his promise to employ 700 indigenes of Ojokoro community within his 100 days in office if given the ticket to represent the party. Party delegates were given the chance to ask questions. A party delegate from ward F who is also a Pastor said he wished to know how the chairmanship aspirant will fund various projects he intends to embark upon if given the ticket. Mrs. Taiwo from ward E also demanded to know if free education was part of the programmes the chairmanship aspirant hopes to execute.
While responding, Hon. Dipo Okeyomi said he had concluded plans on how to fund every projects as part of his discussion with a foremost leader of the party, before he passed on. According to him, late Hon. Moruf Adefolabi obliged him to return free feeding back to public primary schools in Ojokoro LCDA. This, he added have been included in his development agenda for Ojokoro LCDA. He said free education for primary and secondary schools is the responsibility of government as he promised to uphold the tenets.
Apparently heated by the intense condition of the secretariat, Hon. Okeyomi implored all the councillorship aspirants under his umbrella to donate fans for the party and in the process, 51 fans were donated in total by all the aspirants. Leading other aspirants in the donation was the councillorship aspirant from ward B, Barr. Dele Ogundele who was once the president, National Association of Ojokoro Students’ (NAOS).
Lending credence to Okeyomi’s bright chances of making it to the Ojokoro LCDA top seat, a delegate who does not want his name in print said “Okeyomi may clinch the party’s ticket because of the degree of assistance towards widows, women groups, youths and indigenes at different levels. We might decide to pay him back as a means of appreciation to encourage him to do more.”
As Lagosians look eagerly for the announcement by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, (LASIEC), to release the election guidelines for the race to start proper, supporters of Hon. Okeyomi have continued to drum support for him in and around Ojokoro community.
