Indefatigable Chairman of Super Eagles Supporters Club, Prince Vincent Okumagba has stated that he stands for unity and would remain as such in his quest to foster resourceful relationship between football-loving Nigerians, all stakeholders in sports promotions and projections.
Okumagba, made this position known following an evaluation of the activities of the Supporters Club by the respected President the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick who he says has been his source of inspiration, encouragement and restless promoter of football. “His personality is a catalyst to us at the Supporters Club, his office has been highly supportive and he’s ever willing to project the country anywhere in the world”.
Pinnick, according to Okumagba has made several attempts to galvanize interests groups with the Supporters Club but it is sad that his efforts were not being appreciated by some people which have compelled him to refer to issues around the Club as being “irreconcilable”.
“What we all need to do was to embrace the office of Pinnick’s NFF in projecting the nation’s football teams and their impact in the world map. This essentially should be our priority, rather than contending issues with Club management that is vibrant and determined to support the sports ambassadors”.
Special Adviser to the Chairman on Media matters and Publicity quoted Okumagba as saying, “The nation must rise to embrace change, especially where some thinks they could rule “forever”. “This is what we stand for, we need to bring 21st century innovations to exertions of sports projections and more importantly, support our sports icons all over the world”.
In his words, “The various approach we had applied to the Eagles’ Supporters Club since we assumed office have changed the activities of the Club and very many dignifying sports officials including Pinnick and many others have embraced our management styles and as such have identified with us as we do our nation proud anywhere in the world.
According to Okumagba, “This is why the NFF boss, Pinnick was bold to say, though he had no preferred group but he admitted working with Okumagba faction because they coordinate themselves and support the national team genuinely”.
For me, it’s appalling that the supposed faction find it difficult to accept that change is inevitable. “I would have expected we should concentrate on how to move the national team to the next level internationally, because we have since taken over as the only recognized and acceptable Supporters Club in Nigeria. Our belief is that all interested groups and individuals have the right to join us and build football promotions together and make visible progress”.
“Because our vision is to promote the national team, we on our own have resolved to welcome whosoever is ready and willing to work with us because we are against anything that will work against our national team. We are focused in our dealings, we have projections for the national team and the nation is always on our hearts”, Okumagba added.
Ahead of the recent qualification of the Eagles after playing 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana last Saturday at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Prince Okumagba was ecstatic to share in the nation’s achievement in qualifying for the AFCON. “The Supporters Club led by Ralph Ogunsola with over 50 members were there in Johannesburg and no doubt, our presence was an addition to the performance of the boys. The boys deserve the best support and this is our concerns, we do not and would not allow any distractions to prevent us from giving them the best”.
“I want to use this opportunity to commend the South African Embassy for making the trip possible for my dedicated and loyal members by issuing visas to all members who applied to be on the trip to support and cheer the national team. We look forward to a better relationship with the embassy in no distant future”.
And most importantly, Prince Okumagba took cognizance of the leadership of Amaju Pinnick when he congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) saying, “that was a combined efforts of the NFF with all stakeholders, the qualification of the Super Eagles to AFCON 2019 in Cameroon is a big score to the NFF and I rejoice with them for the great feat”.
After winning the qualifying match last Saturday, the President Muhammadu Buhari swiftly joined millions of football-loving Nigerians when he congratulated the Super Eagles for conquering the formidable opponent, Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
However, Okumagba, who’s enthused by the team’s confidence, sense of patriotism and professionalism, also commended the Super Eagles and promised the Supporters Club will come our en masse to support them for the formality match in Nigeria come March 2019.
While commending them for a job well done, the Supporters’ Club Chairman Okumagba who, last Friday took over the podium to present the biggest award of the night at the recently-held Nigeria Sports Awards wished the Super Eagles more successes in the nearest future.
