The journey to eternal rest for former Principal Engineer of Nigeria’s foremost Northern based newspaper, New Nigerian, (Engr. Chief) Jacob Kolawole Okunuga Onabajo, begins on Tuesday, April 25 when service of songs by a C & S church holds at his 1, Olaitan Oshinuga street, Alapere, Ketu residence in Lagos. Also on Wednesday, April 26, the Celestial Church Worldwide stages a post-humous celebration in his honour when a special service of songs continues, also at his residence.
The well-laid out funeral arrangements continues with a wake-keep ceremony on Thursday, April 27, also at his residence in Alapere, Ketu. Taking a heed from his wishes before he departed, his remains will interred at his residence after a funeral service in his honour on Friday, April 28. Thereafter, guests, well-wishers and sympathizers will be treated to a well-organized reception party at Albert Events Place on 8, Community Road, Ojota-Ogudu Expressway, between Connoil and Total Filling station, opposite Apostolic Church (Blue Roof). Guests, relations and well-wishers have been assured of a memorable entertainment with sumptous meals and choice drinks. Music will be supplied when versatile and experienced music band, Sir Kunle Opio takes the centre stage to entertain with good entertainment, all to celebrate the life and times of Engr, Kola Onabajo.
Former Principal Engineer of Nigeria’s foremost Northern based newspaper, New Nigerian, (Engr. Chief) Jacob Kolawole Okunuga Onabajo passed on at the age of 73. Daddy Alapere, Engineer, as he’s fondly called by relations answered the call on January 17, 2017 after a brief illness. Engr. Chief Jacob Kolawole Okunuga Onabajo, who’s also Most Senior Evangelist, was the Baba Ewe Ijo of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Oke-Eri, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state until his death. Born on 29th July 1944, to the families of late Jonathan and Juliana Oluwemimo Okunuga, Engr. Kola in the course of his professional practice travelled far and wide within and outside the country before his retirement from the service of New Nigerian Newspapers in Ijora, Lagos. He was also the Grand Patron in many churches among which is CCC Jesus Layomi, The Joy of Salvation Church C & S, CCC Emi Iyanu, all in Lagos. Known for his affable and humility to the young and old, Engr. Kola was an active member of the community development in Alapere, Ketu where he resides with families.
Kola Onabanjo, who until his departure fronm this sinful world hails from Oke Eri in Ijebu area, Ogun State. He was so loved by his sibblings, cousins, relations and family members who see him as “Olori Ebi”. One of his cardinal philosophy is that deiscipline in everything one does should be uppermost. He condones no nonsense and ensured all his children embrace good education. Little wonder he spends fortune, during his lifetime that all of them acquire good education, even at the expense of his comfort.
Engr. Kola Onabajo, who shortly before he passed on just returned from the United States of America where he spent a good time with his first son, Segun is survived by wives, children and grand children.
