Former Principal Engineer of Nigeria’s foremost Northern based newspaper, New Nigerian, (Engr. Chief) Jacob Kolawole Okunuga Onabajo has passed on at the age of 73. Daddy Alapere, as he’s fondly called by relations answered the call on January 17, 2017 after a brief illness. Engr. Chief Jacob Kolawole Okunuga Onabajo, who’s also Most Senior Evangelist, was the Baba Ewe Ijo of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Oke-Eri, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state until his death. Born on 29th July 1944, to the families of late Jonathan and Juliana Oluwemimo Okunuga, Engr. Kola in the course of his professional practice travelled far and wide within and outside the country before his retirement from the service of New Nigerian Newspapers in Ijora, Lagos. He was also the Grand Patron in many churches among which are CCC Jesus Layomi, The Joy of Salvation Church C & S, CCC Emi Iyanu, all in Lagos. Known for his affable and humility to the young and old, Engr. Kola was an active member of the community development in Alapere, Ketu where he resides with families.
Funeral arrangements begin on Wednesday, April 26 when service of songs by churches where he played active services will be held in his honour at his Alapere residence- 1, Olaitan Oshinuga street, Alapere, Ketu. This will be followed by a wake-keep ceremony on Thursday, April 27, also at his residence in Alapere. Taking a heed from his wishes before he departed, his remains will interred at his residence after a funeral service in his honour on Friday, April 28. Thereafter, guests, well-wishers and sympathizers will be treated to a well-organized reception party at Albert Events Place on 8, Community Road, Ojota-Ogudu Expressway, between Connoil and Total Filling station, opposite Apostolic Church (Blue Roof).
Engr. Kola Onabajo, who shortly before he passed on just returned from the United States of America where he spent a good time with his first son, Segun is survived by wives, children and grand children.
