Lagos State Chief Executive, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has again displayed the sterling quality of his administration when he ensured delivery of justice and equity at the recently-concluded local government elections, especially in Ojokoro Local Community Development Area (LCDA) where he restored the stolen mandate of a candidate who had recorded victory at last week’s LG primaries elections.
The Governor yesterday ordered party elders and major stakeholders to seek an urgent meeting with the owner and winner of the mandate, Hon. Oladipupo Okeyomi, popularly known as “Carry Go” with a view to re-addressing the erroneous pronouncement of a one-time Supervisory Councillor at the Ojokoro LCDA, known as HID as the elected Chairman of the Council.
Heeding the Governor’s order, Safari News learnt how the APC Party chairman and current Sole Administrator of Ojokoro LCDA, Dr. Waliu Adeleke Ipaye quickly communicated other stakeholders like Hon. Makinde and many others. The meeting was held at the residence of winner of the mandate yesterday, Thursday, June 8 with other party leaders in attendance.
At the meeting, we learnt how the reconciliation team expressed their regret over the false pronouncement of HID as the winner of the primaries elections and promised Carry Go, it was pertinent for him to accept Gov. Ambode’s moves to restore his confidence so Ojokoro could move forward.
In his words, Okeyomi was said to have showed his appreciation over Gov. Ambode’s intervention who had made it clear that he did not, at any time request anyone or any party leader to upturn the original results of the primaries elections by removing Okeyomi’s name as the winner of the elections in Ojokoro. He also assured the party stakeholders that what had happened would not, deter him from taking Ojokoro community to the next level, a vision he added had been his age-long desire.
The reconciliation moves however ended with a great applause from all in attendance, a development that created a friendly atmosphere between the aggrieved members of Carry Go supporters’ team and the Ojokoro chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Safari News can authoritatively reveal that those in attendance at the meeting included Hon. Makinde, Member Lagos House of Assembly; Sole Administrator of Ojokoro LCDA, Dr. Waliu Adeleke; APC Party Chairman in Ojokoro, Alh. Amje, Alhaji Muhammad, APC leader Ojokoro LCDA (Baba Ile Ogbo) and Hon. Sesan Sobande, National Deputy Youth leader APC. Others in attendance were Alhaja Faaji, Alhaji Hassan Ajeigbe, All APC ward Chairmen, All the Mandate group Chairmen, Hon. Owolabi and a few others.
It will be recalled that at the LG primaries elections held last week, the most popular and generally-accepted candidate, Oladipupo Okeyomi, fondly called “Carry Go” was announced as the winner after votes were counted in his favour beating all other contenders. Soon after that, crisis erupted as a result of differences while counting the votes of Surulere Local Government, hence the elections were halted which led to a number of people wounded.
While party representatives, stakeholders and observers waited eagerly for the announcement of the winner of the Ojokoro elections, news went round that the winner, Hon. Okeyomi had been dropped from “order above”. This created unstable situation and all forms of bickering in the Ojokoro community.
The Safari News report that went viral immediately after the Carry Go results were announced was even tagged to be “fake” by some observers who sent in emails after our publication. But we remained undaunted that we had only published facts as it was announced at the primaries elections and waited to be vindicated.
Days after the elections were concluded, it became obvious that there was more to the non-release of the official announcement.
The sudden upturn in restoring the mandate to the original winner, Hon. Oladipupo Okeyomi (Carry Go) came up yesterday when the team led by the APC Party Chairman, Hon. Makinde, Dr. Adeleke Ipaye (Sole Administrator of the Ojokoro LCDA) stormed Carry Go’s residence to carry out the process of actual return of the mandate to him.
