Members and staff of the Lagos State Judiciary have welcomed with great excitement and expectation the resumption of the new Chief Justice of the State of Excellence, Justice Opeyemi Oke. This is coming on the heels of their much-awaited optimism about the enviable leadership skills and accountability of the person of Oke who they strongly believe would correct all the short-comings of the past administration of the erstwhile CJ.
Much as they are aware of the huge back-log of some administrative lapses from the last administration, the Judiciary as a whole are expectant that Justice Oke’s regime will correct and put in place new policies that will improve the general welfare of member staffs and corporate delivery of the fundamental principles of the Judiciary functions in the State. A top member of the Judiciary who spoke with Safari News under anonymity said, they are confident Justice Oke will deliver and make Lagos Judiciary one of the best. “She has track records and we are solidly behind her to make sure her regime is successful, this we will not compromise”.
Following the statutory retirement of Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade as Chief Judge of Lagos state, the Lagos state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode last Friday, October 20, 2017 swore – in Justice Opeyemi Oke as the Chief Judge of the state.
Speaking at the State Executive Chambers in Alausa while swearing-in Justice Opeyemi Oke as the 16th substantive Chief Judge of the State, Governor Ambode called for more reforms aimed at fast-tracking justice delivery without necessarily compromising the fundamental principle of fair hearing and the rule of law.
The governor also unveiled plans to establish a designated Commercial Courthouse for speedy resolution of disputes and enhance ease of doing business.
He added that Lagos as the commercial nerve centre of the country deserves a modern state of the art first class Commercial Courthouse and urged Justice Oke to see her appointment as a platform to sustain and improve on the enviable reputation of the State Judiciary.
He also assured of continued cooperate with the judiciary in implementing appropriate strategies to ensure justice is done speedily.
