A group of concerned various Nigerian professionals have come out to float a Non-Governmental Organization, Integrity Group. Conceptualized to shape the choice of people jostling for public offices, the body is taking up the task of scrutinizing candidates seeking public office positions, from their youthful days till present dates, thereby lending credence to the democratic process.
This, according to the conveners will assist greatly the work-load of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) towards adopting the right candidates for various public offices across the country.
In a press statement released by veteran journalist and publisher, DELE ABERUAGBA, the spokesperson for IG, “High points of our task would be to carry out a covert investigation of candidates in any part of the country, we dig into their past and recommend the right choices for the electorates to now decide who to vote for. Our objective in IG, when carried out would have done justice to the down-trodden and the masses who do not have the opportunity to know the ideal candidate who would rightly represent them in public offices. We stand to disabuse the age-long tradition of deceiving electorates with meager amount of money and packaged 50-Grammes of rice, in a bid to secure their votes unjustly”, says a member of the group.
The group which is emanating from Ojokoro area of Lagos is proudly made up of people with proven characters who are professionals, veterans and business owners with track records.
According to Mr. Aberuagba, “Ours is not just to prepare a platform for the adoption of a particular candidate or mop up support for candidates jostling for public offices, rather we want to ensure that we eradicate the issue of wrong set of people governing the generality of people in the society. We shall make sure that votes of electorates are not wasted and misused, especially in the 2019 elections and beyond.
The IG, as part of its resolve to launch out massively in the country is already carrying out a deep research in the life and times of various candidates in Ifako Ijaye community and beyond. “We are bent on primarily starting out in our domain, any candidate going around seeking the support of electorates in the community that is found to be questionable shall be presented to the public and discouraged to seek election”, he concluded.
