A seeming displeasure and ill-feelings is gradually brewing in Ojokoro LCDA as the Council Chairman, Hon. Hameed Idowu D. Tijani, fondly called HID is being accused of maintaining hard stance over the State’s directive to promptly inaugurate the Council Executives cabinet, following the submission of lists handed over to all Council chairmen across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs by the Lagos State government in conjunction with the APC leadership in Lagos on Tuesday, October 31.
Competent sources revealed to Safari News that HID had remained recalcitrant owing to the fact that the list did not ‘favour’ his own foot soldiers, and has therefore joined some local government chairmen who allegedly refused to display the list, nor contact those whose names appear for screening. As at press time, majority of the Councils had sworn in those nominated but Ojokoro and a few had abstained from inaugurating the candidates submitted to him by the APC leadership.
Following the seeming murmuring and groupings around the Council, the media aide to the council chairman Ifako Ijaiye, Hon. Toba Oke, had in a press release last Wednesday said, “the inauguration have been suspended till further notice”, but after close door meetings, we learnt the council boss swiftly reversed the decision and fixed today, Friday, November, 3 for the inauguration at the council Secretariat.
In Ojokoro LCDA however, the list has evolved a tensed atmosphere as the council boss kept mute on the list, while according to information gathered from a reliable but confidential source, said those whose names appeared on the approved released list of cabinet members said they have not been contacted for any screening or meeting. A number of others who chose anonymity however told Safari everything was in order adding they may soon be called for inauguration tomorrow.
A party chieftain from Ward B in Ojokoro LCDA, who does not want his name mentioned, also corroborated this claim. He said, “The Council chairman has refused to call those on the list, (as contained in the official list made available to Safari News). This includes the Secretary to the Local Government SLG – Mr. Onipede. Others who made the list are Supervisory Councillors, Mr. Jare Animashaun, Mr. H. O Davies, Mrs. Ojugbele, Mr. Busari Nasir, Mrs. Femi Alamu and others”.
The council chairman of Ojokoro local council development area, Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani has been covertly challenged of hiding the list from the party leaders and general public, with an attempt to allegedly alter the list, which the party stalwarts said would be incriminating and could trigger tension if the chairman failed to desist from the “one man show” he had embarked upon since he assumed office.
Though the chairman Hon. HID Tijani has debunked the allegation in his conversation with our correspondent on telephone, he said, “I don’t understand why you said I refused to swear them in, there is a process that must be followed, which is a clearance from the legislative arm, a process that cannot be overlooked, we can’t jump the gun, their records must be scrutinized before we can go ahead.”
Feelers from a source conversant with the T-Block where the list emanated from in Alausa Secretariat, disclosed that HID was dump-founded when he got the list and for several minutes, he had to hang around not knowing the way forward. “He was so disturbed at the choice of candidates, lamenting the fact that he was denied the opportunity to choose his cabinet members”.
Meanwhile, he had contacted his leader, Hon. Olabinjo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce for possible way of changing the SLG and some other Supervisory Councillors from the released cabinet list,” the source said.
In another telephone chat with the leader Ojokoro legislative arm, Hon. Osho Abdulazeez, he told our correspondent, “There is a procedure to be adhered to, we are expecting notification from the Council Chairman, once we have it possibly today, we would go ahead with the screening. So if the executive forwards the letter today, we would do the needful”. “
The scenario seems sketchy and unpredictable as many party members could not understand why the swearing of cabinet members in Ojokoro LCDA would now become a problem for the Council Chairman.
