Two university graduates have reportedly drowned at the beach According to Instagram user @ronke_johnson. Two of her friends had gone to Elegushi beach in Lagos, to support one of their friends who was celebrating her birthday, and what was supposed to be a fun day became one their family and friends won’t forget in a hurry. The ladies identified as Funmi and Sola, were reportedly swept away by water when the waves hit. Both were said to be graduates of Covenant university Ota, Ogun state, and in their mid twenties. Here’s what their friend Ronke wrote below: “What was supposed to be a day of fun and laughter and birthday wishes quickly turned into one of sorrow and endless tears. Funmi and Sola, both graduates of Covenant University and in mid twenties lost their lives at Elegushi beach while at a friend’s birthday party yesterday. I can’t help but wonder if maybe it would be a different story if we just had lifeguards at locations like these in Nigeria or a wave alert system or even an emergency medical unit. They were young vibrant adults looking to make a change in our country. They had only just finished their masters’ programme in International Law and Diplomacy at UNILAG. This can’t be the norm in our society, every life matters. All we ask is that the government parastatals in charge look into this. Let our beaches be safe again.
